5 Reasons to watch UFC and Cage Warriors this weekend

We have a fun-filled night of mixed martial arts action ahead of us this Saturday, with UFC Fight Night: Jacare v Hermansson and Cage Warriors 104: Shore v Malone.

For many, Cage Warriors is a promotion that isn’t high up their list because of the glitz and glam the UFC provides and the attraction of it’s bright lights when the promotion rolls into town. But the UFC and Cage Warriors are closer than you think!

Cage Warriors is seen as the best route for a young fighter to follow if they have career aspirations to make it into the big leagues, the UFC. Our own sponsor Rhys McKee has that exact same route in mind!

  1. Jacare Souza’s signature alligator clap

You may be wondering, who is Jacare Souza and what am I talking about? Well the fighter Souza is a Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu wizard, and he dosen’t have bad striking either. The word ‘Jacare’ translates as alligator in Portuguese and Souza uses a clapping alligator like animation as he walks up to the octagon, Honestly, it intimidates me every time…..

2. Who dosen’t love a battle of Britain?

At Cage Warriors 104, Welshman Jack Shore puts his Bantamweight title on the line against Scottish warrior Scott Malone. The promo Cage Warriors put together for this contest was simply incredible! Both men can really win the fight anywhere they please. Both have win’s via submission, knockout and decision in their total 16 combined fights.

3. How can you not love watching Andrei Arlovski?

Andrei Arlovski is certainly a name that fight fans around the world, or even simply playing any of the UFC games would be familiar with. The former UFC Heavyweight champion has been with the promotion from 2000, and is certainly a veteran of the sport. Arlovski faces Augusto Sakai, a man who is currently 12-1 and 2-0 in the UFC. This should be an interesting fight!

4. A former UFC fighter nicknamed ‘Kong’ is fighting for Cage Warriors

Tom ‘Kong’ Watson makes his return to the pro-MMA scene this weekend against Cage Warriors Welterweight contender Aaron Khalid. Watson was the former BAMMA Welterweight champion and fought for the UFC from 2012-2015. As well as his fan-favourite nick-name, Watson comes out wearing a gorilla mask. Pretty fun and different if you ask me!

5. Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira v Mike ‘Platinum’ Perry

This fight has the potential to be fight of the night contender. If your a fan of Oliveira or Perry you’ll know that both of these fighters only know one way to throw down, and that’s usually an absolute slug-fest. Mike Perry took on another Cowboy in Donald Cerrone last time out and was beaten. Can Perry get the victory over a second Cowboy challenger? O can the Cowboy win the gunfight?
