Brian Hughes Blog: Four Rides at Hexham

By Brian Hughes

I have four rides at Hexham this afternoon.

12:20 – 2m4f Maiden Hurdle

Baracalu, a bumper winner in March 2017, put in a good run for me at Sedgefield last December, finishing second of ten, beaten by under two lengths.

This is his comeback run and some of his rivals may have a fitness edge today.

Know The Score ran well at Chepstow recently and is the one to beat.

My horse is working well at home and I hope he makes the frame.

1:20 – 2m Novices’ Hurdle

Derriana Spirit is a very consistent mare with a win and three seconds from her last five attempts under rules.

She ran well for me on her hurdling debut at Ayr, beaten by four and a half lengths in second.

She is a big strong mare and I expect her to improve for the experience and go close today.

Iconic Belle and Madam Cloud are chief rivals.

1:50 – 3m Handicap Chase

Inchcolm, a winner of four chases including the last two, was successful here in November over a similar trip.

He is in a rich vein of form at the moment and I hope he completes the hat-trick.

Alto Des Mottes is the main danger.

2:50 – 1m7½f Handicap Chase

Echo Express, a bumper winner, ran well for me here three weeks ago on his chasing debut, finishing second to Le Frank.

This was his return run from a break of 177 days and I would expect him to progress from the outing and have every chance today with cheekpieces fitted.

Kavanaghs Corner, a good second at Uttoxeter seventeen days ago, is the chief threat.
