Good Boy Alfie, twice a winner on the flat, performed well on hurdling debut finishing a dozen lengths behind me when I was on board the victor Ormesher at Cartmel in late August. He will find today’s easier two miles more suitable and I expect an improved run with a winning chance.
He has ten lengths to make up on Ghost Serge
, second in the Cartmel race and also has to fear Brandy James
an excellent third to Chief Justice at Worcester last month.
Westbank has performed somewhat moderately in both Irish Points, and two hurdle runs here in July.
She needs to improve considerably to get involved in a contest dominated by the four-time seeking Make My Heart Fly.
Lough Kent, a five times winner under rules, ran a solid race at Cartmel in August finishing second to Wells De Lune. He disappointed two days later when well beaten by the same horse in a chase. He needs to recapture some of the old form he displayed when trained by Nicky Henderson.
Airdrigh is still a maiden after eleven attempts. He was tailed off on his last run at the track in August. He is down in grade today but needs significant improvement to play a part.
This event is likely to go the way of Jaunty Thor
, beaten just a neck here sixteen days ago.
Lough Derg Jewel finished 2017 in style winning two chases for me at Ayr in December. He has had a nice break since his last run at Kelso in May and generally goes well fresh. He has an EW chance today.
, a winner of four races under rules, bolted up by seventeen lengths on his penultimate start at Carlisle in March this year. A repeat of that effort would give him an excellent chance today.
Recent winners Justatenner
and Rolling Maul
appear the primary opponents. My horse should appreciate the ground and the extra distance.
was an excellent course winner for me in April this year and followed up with a second-place effort in May. He should be fit for today after his comeback run in August. Despite his eleven years, he retains all his enthusiasm, and I expect a big race today equipped with a first-time visor.
