This Saturday night, early hours of Sunday morning Amir Khan steps into the ring at the legendary Madison Square Garden New York City, with arguably the greatest pound for pound Welterweight in the division.
King Khan will be faced with the task to dethrone current WBO Welterweight title holder Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford. A man who is certainly well-respected in the world of boxing.
The American-Crawford holds a superb record of 34 fights, 34 wins with 25 coming by way of knockout. Many have already written the experienced Brit off, who went on a two year hiatus from the sport. It is no illusion that he will face a formidable opponent and steep monumental task ahead.
Amir Khan however, is no stranger to the big occasion. The 32-year old was the former unified WBA and IBF Light-Welterweight champion and has been in the ring with some top fighters like Marco Antonia Barrera, Marcos Maidana, Paulie Malignaggi, Danny Garcia, Canelo Alvarez and now Terence Crawford.
The WBO title holder Crawford has been on a tear with his 34-fight unbeaten streak. He has beaten top opponents in former WBO Lightweight champ Ray Beltran, former WBC Light-Welterweight champion Viktor Postol, knocked out WBA and IBF Light-Welterweight champion Julius Indongo. Crawford went on to continue his destruction KO’ing Australian Jeff Horn who beat Manny Pacquiao for his WBO Welterweight title.
Khan is certainly getting in the cage with a hungry tiger, and someone who is expected to face IBF Welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr, WBC holder Shawn Porter and WBA champ Kieth Thurman in the near future.
Can King Khan pull off an upset? Or will history repeat itself for the heavy underdog?
