One of the biggest days of the year in the footballing calendar is almost here! At 2.30pm Saturday late-lunch, inside the National Stadium, Windsor Park fans will have their flags and jerseys at the ready to see who will be crowned Irish Cup champions 2019.
Fans of former Premiership champions Crusaders will take on Championship underdogs Ballinamallard United, in the decider to see who will lift aloft the Irish Cup trophy.
The North-Belfast side hasn’t won the competition in 10 years, the last time was in 2009. Manager Stephen Baxter’s side has faced a tough road to the final by beaten Glentoran, Linfield, Ballymena United and Coleraine. There is no doubt that they are battled ready.
The Crues have lost two subsequent finals against Linfield but defeated the league champions to lift the County Antrim Shield, earlier this year and look to add another piece of silverware to their trophy room.
Ballinamallard Manager Harry McConkey believes that beating Premiership sides Dungannon Swifts and Warrenpoint Town on penalties, will give his team an added belief going into this one.
The Fermanagh club will bring the whole town with them on Saturday, as they prepare to take their first ever walk into an Irish Cup final.
The Mallards are the first non-top flight club to reach the final since Carrick Rangers in 1976. This is the magic of the cup, and what makes the competition special. History will be made.
