NFL Team Report-New England Patriots

The second entry into our NFL Team Report is Superbowl favourites the New England Patriots!

The Patriots are considered the Man United of the sport and I will explain why below.

2018 Season Recap

Well where do I start? The 2018 season was a huge success for the New England Patriots who lifted the Lombardi Trophy for a record sixth time.

With coaches Matt Patricia and Josh McDaniels set to leave for Head Coaching jobs things looked doom and gloom for the Boston-based side.

McDaniels reversed his decision and stayed to put together a plan to beat the Houston Texans 27-20 in the first game of the season. The Patriots plummeted to two consecutive defeats in their next two games but quickly pulled the ship out of rough waters.

The Patriots season ended the regular season with a 11-5 record, winning huge games against Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs that secured the AFC East division and AFC conference to advance to the Superbowl.

They defeated the LA Rams in the Superbowl 13-3 in a typical Patriots performance which nullified their high-scoring opponents to just three points.

Coach Bill Belichick

Most coaches in the modern game pass themselves with the media but not Bill Belichick. His blunt answers to questions and almost ‘I don’t want to be here vibe’ is just a smoke-screen for keeping everything in-house and the master plans under wraps for game day.

Mind you he dosen’t like using new technology, seen here throwing a tablet far out of his sight! Back to the pen and paper Bill?

But don’t let this fool you! A defensive master-mind on and off the field, Belichick is considered the greatest coach to ever be involved in the game. His legacy is already secured following SIX Super Bowl’s successes…

His players buy into the ‘Do your job’ motto which has built constant success in New England from he took over the top job in 2000.

He also has a boat named ‘Six Rings’ changing the name for every Lombardi Trophy lifted. That’s like Zinedine Zidane naming his car ‘Three Champo Leagues’.

QB Tom Brady

With most NFL teams, fans will watch a Super Bowl or recognize a certain player and follow that team. Tom Brady is a gobal superstar.

Brady entered the NFL as a sixth round pick out of Michigan College. There where no flashy cars or expensive watches for Tom, who wasn’t expected to have much of an NFL career.

Sheer talent and determination from Brady was how he broke into the Patriots starting line-up in 2001. He has been dominating the NFL ever since.

Winning 6 Superbowl’s, 4 Super Bowl MVP’s, 14 Pro Bowl’s and breaking multiple other records sets Brady as possibly the greatest QB of all time.

The 42-year old is continuing to defy the odds as one of the oldest players to play the game and looks like no signs of slowing down.

Superbowl Victories

Every American Football athlete dreams of winning a Superbowl trophy. It’s the pinnacle of the sport just like winning the Champions League or World Cup in Football.

The New England Patriots are a storied franchise and have created their own dynasty since owner Robert Kraft bought over the team in the late 90s.

Patriots 13-3 Superbowl victory over the LA Rams last season

There has been a winning culture created within the organisation who have dominated the AFC conference and made Gillette Stadium a fortress.

They have won the Super Bowl in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2015, 2017 and 2019 which is quite remarkable for any team.

It doesn’t look like this run is going to slow down anytime soon.

Upcoming 2019 Season

The usual Patriots style is to move players on for high draft picks, trade and sign others on cheap contracts and use the draft to pickup depth for the squad.

Wide-Receiver N’Keal Harry was the teams first round pick in the draft this year and soften the loss of Tight End Rob Gronkowski who announced his retirement at the end of last season.

In the AFC East they will continue as favorites for the division ahead of the Jets, Bills and Dolphins. The New York Jets seem like the only team who will test the Patriots this season in their division.

New England have won the division 16 out of 18 times since Brady took over as QB with the dominance set to continue.

They should get to the later stages of the season and push for another Superbowl title. Can the Patriots defend their title?

Prediction-To finish the season 12-4
