Saturday at Ayr Races: Brian’s Slick Six Tips

12.30 – Keep it in the Family

Peters Cousin, a bumper winner at Cartmel on October 17, makes her hurdling debut in the opener. She was probably unlucky not to win a second bumper when just touched off having jinked and lost ground near the finish. A clear round of jumping will give her a good chance with the Richards stable in form.

Likely Threats

Off The Hook, runner-up on her last three starts and Irish Raider Sassa Diva look to be stiff competition.

1.05– Blaker to Rigg it

Blakerigg returns to action following a six months break and wind surgery. He showed ability when second in a debut bumper in 16 and more recently at Doncaster on January 18 when he finished runner-up; beaten by a length in a novice chase. I hope the wind op and break have a positive effect and allow my horse to get competitive.

Likely Threats

There is no doubt that this will be an open race; Instingtive, just beaten at Carlisle 16 days ago, looks the main danger.

1.40– From Russia with Love

Katachenko, a winner of two hurdles and two chases had his last success on April 16, has raced well on many occasions since without a victory. He needs things to go his way and hopefully the cheekpieces will sharpen him up.

Likely Threats

ACDC, who beat my horse at Wetherby 17 days ago, goes well for claimer Liam Quinlan and likes the track.

2.15– Elusive Performance for the Theatre

Elusive Theatre was in excellent form at the start of the year with a win in January followed by three placed efforts. She is small and robust and tries hard. After returning from a six months break, I hope this will add to her four wins under rules.

Likely Threats

Stuart Crawford has a good record with his Ayr raiders with most to fear from Rolling Maul seeking a four-timer.

2.50– Sparking the Flame of Victory

Raise A Spark, with six wins under rules, including two chases at Cartmel didn’t see out the two and a half mile trip last day at Perth. He is back in the distance today and should have an excellent chance. I won on Pistol Park in April while Ontopoftheworld ran up a hat trick recently. A very even contest but my horse should edge it.

3.25 – Tax Man Always Wins

Taxmeifyoucan, a four-time winner on the flat had his second hurdles success at Kelso in February. He had a comeback run on the flat here in September finishing third beaten under eight lengths. He comes from the in-form Dalgleish yard and should run well with conditions to suit.

Likely Threats

I am looking forward to the ride with Le Patriote, a winner for me at Ascot in February possibly the main danger.
