Six Nations – Round 2

Have you caught your breath yet? What a start to the 2019 Six Nations. England Schooled Ireland, Wales gave France a massive start and reeled them in and Scotland took apart Italy. What does Round 2 Look like?

The Table above shows the standings after Round 1. Scotland Lead the way, Ireland prop up the table with Italy and England look ominous after 1 game.

Scotland v Ireland – Sat 2.15pm

Rob Kearney and C Laidlaw battle it out in the Air

Ireland has lost Devon Toner, CJ Stander and Garry Ringrose to injury for their crucial clash at Murrayfield. Keith Earls has been passed fit and is likely to play. Toners injury means Ireland are without 3 of the 4 backrows named in Schmidts initial Six Nations Squad. Connachts Rou and Dillane are now joined by Holland, who won his single cap in 2016 against Canada. Henshaw is expected to move back into the centre with Rob Kearney coming back in at Fullback. Ireland have lost on 2 out of their last 3 visits to Scotland. They come here after just their 2nd loss in 20 games, but how will they react?

Scotland have injuries to cope with also. 19 out of Scotland original 31 man squad were unavailable for the Italy game. Barclay and Watson are the two most likely to be missed again this weekend.

Ireland will go to Scotland Angry and Wound Up. They don’t lose often, so losing two in a row will be unthinkable to many of the players. Ireland will suffocate Scotland early on and if they can get points on the board it could be a long game for Scotland. Scotland have Hogg and Russell, and there’s no doubt those two can do damage to Ireland. Its hard to see them getting the chance though.

Prediction : Ireland -8 @ 6/5 (Prices Subject to Change)

Italy v Wales – Sat 4.45pm

George North bursts at pace against Italy

Warren Gatland is expected to name a much changed Wales side for their trip to Rome. Jonathan Davies will be Captain for the 1st time and flanker T Young is expected to make his Six Nations Debut.

If Wales beat Italy for the 13th time in a row they will equal their record for consecutive wins with 11. Its hard to see anything other than a Wales victory after their amazing 2nd half comeback against France. Rome will not be easy and home advantage is massive in the Six Nations but Wales are too cute for Italy. The Handicap looks a bit big for them to cover though.

Prediction : Italy +21 @ 19/20 (Prices Subject to Change)

England v France – Sun 3.00pm

England Touchdown against France

Well, what contrasting levels for confidence for these two teams going into Sundays encounter. England were brilliant against Ireland. The Intensity didn’t let up, and they didn’t throw in the usual errors they make. Itoje is out injured and is a big miss. If the Vunipolas and Manu Tuilagi get to carry they will run through France from the outset. Farrell has again shown he can lead but England have a habit of a big win and then getting complacent. Eddie will have his work cut out this week but his razor sharp tongue will bring a few players back down to earth.

France….I don’t know what to write about them. Its been the same for quite a while now, capable of brilliant passages of play but can’t seem to dig out results. As brilliant as they were in the 1st half against Wales, which they were, they imploded and were equally as awful in the the 2nd half. They gave Wales a way back into the match and seemed to prefer to play in their own half. Having said that it was a great game of Rugby and they did have spells in the 2nd half too. They just ended a lot of these plays with mistakes or bad decision making. I think France always get up for the England game. I just don’t think they will play for the whole match at the intensity required.

Prediction : England To Win by 1-5 points @ 13/2(Prices Subject to Change)
