The recent failed US-debut of former Heavyweight champion of the world Anthony Joshua, showed that the path to the top and bright lights of the American dream is not an easy task to overcome.
Joshua was stunningly and surprisingly beaten by challenger Andy Ruiz Jr. to loose his coveted titles, in an outcome that shocked the boxing world. The question going into this bout was could we see another huge upset?
This past Saturday night former unified Heavyweight title holder ‘The Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury made the walk at Madison Square Garden, in what proved to be a spectacular night for the Englishman!
Fury came out dressed in only what can be describe as an uncle Sam outfit, with the colors of America draped around him embracing the audience.
Fury who is now 28-0-1, knocked out former undefeated Heavyweight challenger Tom Schwarz in the second round of their contest.
Fury said he aimed to do more of those stunning performances and declared he would beat Deontay Wilder in a world title rematch that looks set for next year.
The American audience have took to Fury like a duck to water, who is seen by many as bringing back excitement to the Heavyweight division with his bold and brash style.
Fury and promoter Frank Warren have set a date for his next bout which is expected to be September or October of this year, against an unnamed opponent as of yet.
Deontay Wilder has his eyes set on a rematch with Luiz Ortiz, so the Fury Wilder rematch may have to wait….
We may have to wait a little longer for part two of the Fury Wilder contest, but there is no doubt the excitement is back in the Heavyweight division!
