UFC237-Namajunas, Anderson Silva and Jose Aldo back in action

There are some things fans of mixed martial arts will want to know before this weekend’s huge UFC 237 card. We have an American champion putting her belt on the line in enemy territory, MMA great Anderson Silva returns to fight in Brazil for the first time in six years and Jose Aldo looks to defeat another up-coming prospect.

The UFC returns to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil to the birthplace of the sport of MMA and a women’s Strawweight title is the ultimate prize.

Current 115-pound champion Rose Namajunas (8-3) will defend her title for the first time outside of America when she faces Brazil’s own Jessica Andrade (19-6) in the main event.

‘Thug Rose’ the favorite, was the woman to defeat feared Strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk for her crown, knocking her out in the first round of their first fight. Rose is currently on a 3-fight win streak and looks to defend her title for a second time.

Jessica Andrade is a rising contender in the division, whose last defeat was to former champion Joanna but has gone 3-0 since that fight. She has defeated Claudia Gadelha, Tecia Torres and Karolina Kowalkiewicz on her path to a title shot.

In the co-main event, MMA and UFC legend Anderson Silva (34-9) will return to Brazil and welcome American Middleweight Jared Cannonier (11-4) to the octagon.

It has been more than six years since Anderson Silva fought in his native Brazil, and at the age of 44 it may be one of the last opportunities he gets. Cannonier will look to spoil the party and add a huge name to his record.

Former undisputed UFC Featherweight champion Jose Aldo (28-4) is back in action at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio, when he faces Australian-Alexander Volkanovski who is riding an unbeaten 16-fight win streak.

Aldo has enjoyed knockout victories over Jeremy Stephens and Renato Moicano, after suffered successive defeats by now 145-pound champion Max Holloway.

Thiago Alves, Bethe Correia, Antonio Nogueira and Former UFC Lightweight and Featherweight champion BJ Penn all return tonight.
